Children in years 2-9 are welcome to join ELMO. The Eye Level Maths Olympiad is designed to meet various skill levels and is meant to inspire learners.
Participants tackle a range of mathematical topics including arithmetic, geometry, patterns, logic, and reasoning. The Olympiad challenges students to apply their knowledge creatively and think strategically to solve complex problems.
The competition is designed not only to test speed and accuracy but also to nurture deeper analytical skills that are essential in higher education and beyond.
The Eye Level Maths Olympiad assesses a wide range of mathematical abilities through three structured sections.
SECTION 1: tests overall basic mathematical knowledge and arithmetic skills
SECTION 2: tests competency in formulating word problems
SECTION 3: tests problem-solving proficiency in a variety of areas
By taking part in ELMO, students can gain confidence in their maths abilities.
The Olympiad encourages independent thinking and persistence, helping to build a strong foundation. Many students find that the skills and mindset developed through ELMO give them an edge in school exams and other academic pursuits.

To help students prepare, sign up to receive updates about our events and receive access to previous years’ test papers to download and practise on. These are incredibly valuable as they give insight into the competition format.
The Eye Level Maths Olympiad celebrates everyone who enters the competition. All participants receive a certificate of participation and a commemorative medal (available in regions hosting offline events), recognising their effort and dedication.
All ELMO results are announced online, and top-performing students will be contacted individually with further details.
